Congo Mombo #3: James "Blood" Ulmer
Featuring the Harmolodic Express Funk trio:James "Blood" Ulmer, Jamaaladeen Tacuma and Calvin Weston
November 15th, 2003 9pm at the Rock and Bowl, New Orleans
The Scoop:
In support of his critically acclaimed new album, No Escape From the Blues: The Electric Lady Sessions, James Blood Ulmer will headline the Congo Mombo #3. In his own notoriously uncompromising style, Ulmer pushes the boundaries of the blues as only he can.
James Blood Ulmer's first set will be a solo blues performance. Unaccompanied, Blood's deep, resonant baritone vocals and utterly distinct guitar style are not to be missed as they represent one of the last pure examples of the Southern blues style that grew out the deep South's baptist churches in the late 1930s and early 1940s. His second set will feature his Harmolodic Express Funk trio, which in Ulmer's own words "is gonna take it way out and mess up people's heads."
