Artists :: Rayburn Anthony

Rayburn Anthony
Hailing from the same fertile Jackson, Tennessee rockabilly scene as Carl Perkins, Carl Mann and Kenny Parchman, Rayburn Anthony was discovered by former Perkins drummer W.S. Holland at the Pineridge Club’s after hours jam session where the aforementioned could often be found laying down the rock ‘n’ roll. Holland had successfully brought Mann to Sun Records and soon did the same for Anthony, where he waxed a dozen songs. Only half of them were released, among them his calling card; a unique take on “St. Louis Blues” that featured Mann associate Eddie Bush on guitar. Since his Sun days, Anthony has recorded for Musicor, Mercury, Polydor and Stop Records and penned songs for Charlie Louvin, Melba Montgomery, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and Jerry Lee Lewis. He recently returned to his roots with the album Jumpin’ In Jackson, which he cut live in the studio with young Swedish rockabilly devotees Wildfire Willie and the Ramblers.
