The Excels
 The Excels
In the ‘60s, the Excels rocked the Dallas/Fort Worth teen scene, playing clubs, dances and frat parties around North Texas State University where bassist and singer James Goode was a student. The group played raw, ferocious garage-rock versions of songs like “Walkin’ the Dog” and “Little Latin Lupe Lu” and in 1965, recorded a pair of singles on the Gibson label. The group toured with the Ventures and opened for acts like Gary Lewis and the Playboys until 1967, when marriage and military service intervened.
