 Eddie Bo has been laying down the groove for over 45 years. From scorching balls-to-the-wall rock 'n' roll to classic New Orleans rhythm and blues to soul and funk so hardcore that it's guaranteed to make you have one hell of a sore booty while shakin' your tail feather, Eddie has done it, baby!
Bo began his career cutting sides for Johnny Vincent's Ace label where he stated his case in no uncertain terms with the aptly titled "I Love To Rock 'n' Roll." Next he waxed the vippin' and voppin' classic "I`m Wise" for Apollo, which soon became the prototype for Little Richard`s hit "Slippin' and Slidin'." Moving over to Chess, Eddie cut rockabilly stompers like "Oh, Oh" while his "Dearest Darling" became a hit for Etta James. Jumping to the Ric label, Eddie registered immediately with "Check Mr. Popeye," "Tell It Like It Is," and "Every Dog Has His Day."
When he took over Allen Toussaint's role as producer at Seven B, Eddie joined forces with Earl Stanley to help create (and vocalise on) the proto-funk-garage classic "Pass the Hatchet," credited to Roger & the Gypsies, an alias for Stanley's Stereos. With assistance from James Black, Eddie got those asses cryin' "I can`t take it anymore" with the doing-it-to-death funk of "Hook and Sling," "Horse With A Freeze," and "Check Your Bucket" for imprints like Scrim Scramuzza's Scram Records and his own Bo-Sound moniker.
Honored at last year's Jazz Fest Piano Night, Eddie is one of the last of the great piano players from the golden age of New Orleans rhythm and blues, and just dig that turban!!
