Joe Lauro (Crescent City Shadows, It’s All Happening, Baby!, Heroes of the Stomp) is a filmmaker, archivist, musician, consultant and president of Historic Films, a stock-footage film library specializing in music from 1922 to 2000. A regular contributor and attendee of the Stomp, Lauro has custom assembled three programs for Clandestine Celluloid guaranteed to blow your mind and mess with your memory! His most recent film, Louis Prima! In Person!, a retrospective (1937-73) performance film of New Orleans’ native son, premiered at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans in April,; his earlier film on Prima, Louis Prima: The Wildest! was released in 1999. Producing credits include Rejoice and Shout (2009) a history of African-American gospel music; The Four Tops: Reach Out - Definitive Performances 1965-1973 (2008); The Howlin' Wolf Story (2003), and Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Harold Arlen (1999). Lauro is currently completing production on an official documentary about the life and times of Fats Domino. An advocate of getting out of the house to see live music, on film or otherwise, he recently told The New York Times, "some opportunities to see clips of famous musicians warrant leaving the living room sofa behind!” He lives and works in Eastern Long Island, New York.
