Chuck Badie

Listen to Chuck Badie with the AFO Executives on Mojo Hannah

A master at holding down the bottom, Chuck Badie started out as the bassist in the Paul Gayten and Dave Bartholomew orchestras. Hitting the road with Lionel Hampton in the early '5Os, upon returning to New Orleans he helped found the A.F.O. (All For One) record label along with Harold Battiste. Dig his bass lines on Barbara George's "I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)" and Prince La La's "She Put The Hurt On Me" and, if you're lucky enough to score the rare A.F.O. Studio Executives LP, just dig his badness on the sleeve. Chuck's the one with the shades, lookin' so sharp that he comes dangerously close to visually obscuring ultra-sexy vocalist Tammy Lynn. Now that, dear connoisseurs of kool, is no mean feat.

A veteran of countless sessions, Chuck eventually migrated to the West Coast to become Sam Cooke's bassist and, after Sam was killed, came on home to New Orleans where he's been slappin' with the most righteous of authority ever since.
