The Silver Apples
Formed in New York City in the late '60s, the weird and wonderful Silver Apples were a psychedelic duo comprised of Simeon Coxe III and drummer Danny Taylor. Decades ahead of their time, their strange electronic rock – played on a primitive synthesizer of Coxe's invention and a collection of vintage audio oscillators – anticipated the next half-century's developments in electronic dance music. The duo was active for only a few years, between 1967-69, and put out two avant-garde LPs. The pair re-formed in the late '90s with a third member, and finally released a third album which had been sitting in Taylor's attic since 1970. Taylor died in 2005, and since then, Simeon has been touring as a solo version of the Silver Apples. In 2008, he released a new EP, Gremlins.
